കേരളത്തില്‍ ആരാലും സംഘടിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടാതിരുന്ന തയ്യല്‍ തൊഴിലാളികള്‍ സ്വയം സംഘടിച്ച് സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ ഇതര തൊഴിലാളികള്‍ക്ക് നല്‍കുന്ന ആനുകൂല്യങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് സമാനമായ നിയമ പരിരക്ഷക്ക് വേണ്ടി നടത്തിയിട്ടുള്ള പോരാട്ടങ്ങള്‍ പൂര്‍ണ്ണമായും ലക്ഷ്യം കാണാത്ത സാഹചര്യത്തിലാണ് 2006 ല്‍ തയ്യല്‍ തൊഴിലാളികളുടെ ക്ഷേമത്തിനായി എ.കെ.റ്റി.എ ചാരിറ്റബിള്‍ ട്രസ്റ്റ് കേരളത്തില്‍ തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചത്.
